Jake is a 20+-year-old Draft/QH cross who is really sweet.
We bought him just as he was about to be loaded into a trailer that
would have been the last ride of his life. Jake was about to be
transported to a Texas slaughter house. He would have died a very
inhumane death only to be become dinner on someone's plate in another
country! He had rain rot, thrush, open wounds, was anemic, and was
very much underweight.
Jake has old injuries from barb wire to both front legs and feet which
went untreated. He has allergies sometimes, which he is treated
for. Jake has a swayback from poor nutrition and has arthritis in
his back, hips, and knees. Supplements help, and he loves to be
massaged. He loves people and is always looking for a treat.
He can give you looks that make you melt.
Jake was being ridden bareback to help keep him in shape until 2006,
when we made the decision to retire him because of arthritis, which
caused him the discomfort.

04/06/07: We had a new
barefoot trimmer out to work on Jake. His shoes were removed, and
we are going to give his feet another chance to grow out naturally.
05/22/07: Jake's feet are doing great! The new trim
technique is working wonders. He tiptoed for a few days after his
shoes were removed, but he is doing really well.

07/12/07: Jake has a
bad abscess in his right foot and another that is not as bad in his
left. These appear to be stemming from the old wire injuries.
07/28/07: Jake's
abscesses, popped which gave him relief.

Aug 2007:
Jake got to meet one of his angels! Barbara made a 2+ hour drive
to meet Jake and spend time with him. He LOVED the attention, and
he felt so special -- you could just see it written all over him.
Nov 2007: Jake received a complimentary pair of Cavallo boots and
just loves them! They truly help his feet, and now he's all over
the place.
Jan 2007: Jake's feet have taken a turn for the worse. He is
having a very hard time -- the weather has not been kind to him or to
Bud. He's staying in the barn now when it rains and at night so he
won't be in the morning dew.
Feb 2008: Jake has been turned out now for about a week now, and
he is good. He's moving around better and has been feeling good
enough to play with his old friend, Gentleman.
July 2008: Jake is doing well. He still has good days and
bad days, but he remains active. Everyone that meets him really
likes him. And he really loves his angel, Barbara (and her
family). She comes to visit each month and spoils him rotten!

June 13, 2009: Bernice and her daughter, Katie, taking a ride on
Jake and Gentleman.
