Granny Jewels was a 25+-year-old Tennuvian mare that had been abandoned three years ago on 20+ acres not far from our rescue.  She had foundered badly, and her needs had gone neglected.  She had a beautiful spirit and much determination – she loved life.

With time and special trims, Granny made a remarkable recovery from the founder.  In 2009, she developed COPD which, along with arthritis and other health issues, took a significant toll on her.

On March 26th, 2010, Granny crossed Rainbow Bridge.  Her best friend, Casper, and humans that loved her tremendously were by her side when she crossed.  She was buried by her dear friend Abby on Frosty’s Knoll.

Granny is greatly missed, but she earned her wings.  She will be forever in our hearts. Fly with angels, dear Granny – we love you – always!”

"The Lady of Poise, Beauty, and Grace"

The rays of the sun crossed my path
As a soft gentle breeze brushed my face
The clouds of Spring threaded the sky
Thoughts of you come flooding back
Much like a whisper, I heard a soft nicker
Then galloping hooves came across the field
There was no doubt, it had to be you
As I reached out my hand in front of me
I felt your velvet softness touching me back
I could smell your sweet scent
Thank you God... yes, it was you
The Lady of Poise, Beauty, and Grace
As I knelt beside your earthly resting place
The knoll was alive with the presence of Peace
As if it was yesterday and no time had past
Remembering when all I could selfishly ask
Was, “No, not now - Why, God Why?”
I could still feel the burning tears etching my face
That I shed abundantly - so full of sorrow
For all that I wanted, was a forever of 'tomorrow'
Now tears of gratefulness stained my face
Knowing you no longer knew pain
Because God gave you eternal wholeness
Which brought comfort to me
Then you let me know, when the time came
To make my own journey Home to the other side
You'd be there, waiting patiently for me
Then just a quick as you came
I turned to watch the most beautiful sight
Your angel wings disappeared
As you reached out for one more touch
Your mane flowing and coat glistened like a jewel
As you raced like the wind over the Knoll
I felt the thunder of hoof beats pounding in my heart
The Gift of Memories will keep me until then
Because you still touch my heart, my soul
Your presence is within me where ever I go
It was at that moment, a reminder for me
God So Loves Me – Yes, it's True
Because He had brought me the Gift of Loving You...

In Loving Remembrance of Granny Jewels
