Point
to Ponder was a 4 yr old TB filly that had a huge heart and beautiful
disposition. She suffered a fracture to the 3rd carpel bone in
her knee during her final race at Calder Race Track in Miami on August
23rd, 2008. She was transported to an equine hospital in Ocala
and underwent surgery two days later. The first time I met her,
just before surgery, I felt an air of elegance about her - she was
beautiful - inside and out.
Point to Ponder became known as "My Girl" here at the
rescue. She tried for weeks, with all of her strength, and then
more, to heal. But the hardware in her knee failed - she was in
pain. She told us that she was ready to leave the pain and cross
to the other side of Rainbow Bridge in late September.
The morning that she left us I walked her up to Frosty's Knoll to
graze. She got to watch the birds fly and enjoy the open air.
She'd been in a stall for weeks. She had a peace come over her
before she crossed - like a burden had been lifted. As she
crossed we held her and told her we would always love her. She
was so young and deserved many more years. In the racing
industry, the horses are raced too young - before their bones are
strong enough. It is sad - innocent lives lost.
