WELCOME GRAME CRACKER KID!

07/08/08:  We received a call this am from the Sheriff's office to let us know that one of our horses got out.  I looked out and there was a Deputy in our driveway but the horse wasn't one of ours.  We had never seen the horse before.  The horse somehow found his way to our rescue which we felt was appropriate because of the many wounds on his body.  We agreed that the horse could stay in the quarantine paddock until the owner was found.

The Deputy followed hoof prints to a farm over a mile away.  The person was told about the horse and hooked up their trailer to come and pick him up.  In the mean time I tried to doctor some of his many wounds.  I looked at the name on his halter and guess what it said?  "Do Not Forsake Me!"

When the person arrived I asked what they were going to do with the horse and was told the horse was to be trained to be a pony horse.  The horse had recovered from an injury to a back leg but the injury prevented him from making it to the track.  The person said they were leaving to go out of state and asked what we did.  I explained that we rescue, rehab, and re-home horses.  The person asked if we wanted Kid and of course I said yes!  The Donor Contract was signed and it was a done deal.

Graeme Cracker Kid is a 3 year old TB that is one of the nicest horses we have ever met.  The vet has been out to examine him and his wounds are being treated.  He arrived with many scars and healing cuts and scrapes from head to toe.  His muscles were sore all over.  We don't know what happened to him before he came here, but it wasn't good.  We do know he is now safe.  He will be in rehab for awhile and then be available for adoption.

Kid needs sponsors to help with his vet, farrier, and dental needs.  He also needs help with his everyday care expenses.

We were already over capacity but we could not turn this horse away.  He is so calm and appreciative.  He will make someone a very, very nice horse.

He is a little underweight but he will put weight on here in no time.  His wounds are already healing.  He is very beautiful.

If you would like to help with Kid please email us.  Any help would be appreciated.

08/01/08:
While Momma Sue was busy putting her foot in their water bucket, Dr. Das visited with the girls before treating Kid.  She wanted to look in Aaleyah’s mouth but Aaleyah only wanted to stick out her tongue.  Buttercup was willing though!

Kid did really well for Dr. Das (chiropractic & acupuncture).  She reviewed his SMAC/CBC results and there are few levels on the high end and a few on the low.  She thinks his muscle soreness is likely from stress - from before he arrived at the rescue.

He is still pretty tender to the touch.  Whatever happened to him before he made his way to the rescue was enough to put his body into extreme overload.  The swelling in his back legs has improved and the rain rot is much better.

He seemed to truly enjoy his treatment today – especially the acupuncture.  “Thank you!” goes out to Kid’s angels for making today’s visit possible.

Dr. Das suggested he be given a product called Vita Horse (I had already started him on this - Jake said it was ok to share his).  He also gets needed calcium.

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to be an angel to Kid.  He’s such a nice horse and you can tell he is feeling better thanks to Dr. Das and his angels!

Beauty got a bath today and was put in a stall to dry.  She held her head out the stall window with hay in her mouth and Buttercup walked over and stole it - she’s a brave girl!!!  Beauty is an Arabian and she won’t forget – she’ll get even!!!

“No Dr. Das!  Look in my mouth first!  Aaleyah
doesn’t want to open her mouth – look at mine!
Mine is already open and I’m smiling for you!!”
