You Can Help to Prevent Horse Slaughter!
We encourage you to read significant new scientific
research that identifies an important public health risk: the
association of phenylbutazone ("bute") usage with horses bought
for slaughter. Just click on the icon at the right.
"Bute" is a very popular drug
used in horses to treat musculoskeletal injuries. The FDA has forbidden the use of "bute" in animals
intended for human consumption (including horses) because "bute"
produces serious, and often fatal, effects in humans. This
study demonstrates that people are eating contaminated horse meat
without knowing it!
Please also consider
downloading and printing this short paper -- it's only five pages --
and sending it to your Congressional Representative and both your
Senators along with a brief letter summarizing the paper's findings.
Just follow this
link to our Abuse/Neglect page for some suggestions.
Thank you!

In August 2009, we
got a call about a baby that needed help -- he wasn't very far from the
rescue. When we went over to check him out, I looked into the stall, and
right then I knew there was no leaving this baby behind. He looked
so small and alone, huddled in a corner. He had what appeared to be cataracts in both eyes. He had
diarrhea. He was thin, wormy, and had places where he was missing his coat.
His backend was weak, and he was wearing unhealthy baby fur.
I hugged him and started scratching his neck and started humming to
him. He swayed to the left, to the right, to the left, back and
forth to the scratches and humming. I love to listen to Ray
Charles; and this little boy, swaying back and forth to the humming,
reminded me of him -- the name Baby Ray came to me. So, meet Baby
Ray.

rescue. To read about Baby Ray's reunion with his mom, healing
from malabsorbtion syndrome and the effects of starvation and
neglect, undergoing surgery to repair his sight, and the rest of his

... and thank you for your interest! We
are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in the State of
Florida. Please take time to browse through our website and
get to know us and the horses here.
Our purpose is to help as many equine friends as
possible when they are in need. We network with other rescue
organizations and individuals, and we work to educate others about
horse slaughter in an effort to make it illegal -- not just in the
United States but also in Canada, Mexico, and other
countries. To learn more about our mission, please
follow this link to a recent article in Ocala Style magazine.

Horses
who arrive at our beautiful farm come from auctions, kill buyers,
brokers, and sometimes from owners that no longer want them or can
no longer care for them. Some come from caring owners who want
to ensure that their beloved horses find a good home.
Sometimes we
pay to get a horse out of its desperate situation and then
pay to transport the horse to our rescue. Many have been neglected and/or abused and,
once they are safely here, they are in need of vet, farrier,
and dental care, which is also costly.
Once the horses
are safe here, then there are the expenses that come with every horse: feed, wormers, etc.
And, with 34 horses in residence, we go through a ton of hay
about every four days.
We cannot do this
alone. We need assistance from caring individuals, groups, and
businesses. No amount is too small -- please give today to
help the horses by visiting our Donate
page. Donations are tax-deductible.
